Dr. J. Travis Thompson, DDS

Dr. Thompson is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has been caring for patients in the Lake County area since 2006. 

After graduating from the University of Illinois Dental School, he completed advanced training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with the U.S. Army, including serving as Chief of Surgery for Head, Neck, and Dental Trauma Research.

He has a particular interest in maxillofacial pathology, dental implants, and the management of medically complex patients. Dr. Thompson combines a passion for innovation with a commitment to making each patient feel informed and comfortable throughout their care.

We had a great experience with OFIS. We had a mesioden (extra tooth) for my 7 year old daughter removed by Dr. Thompson. We ended going through them because of my experience with Jean, initially. She was so helpful and understanding when I called to get information on how the insurance works and cost associated for scans. I had called at least 3-4 other oral surgeons and Jean was the one that got us in their door. From there, we met Dr. Thompson. He explained what was needed without scaring my daughter. He was very nice and had great rapport. The day of the procedure everything went very well. We are very happy our decision to use Oral Facial &  Implant specialists. The only bad part was her pain meds wore off as soon as we left and we didn't think to bring any with us so she was miserable on the ride home. Also, a cold ice pack on the way out would have been helpful. They did give us one in our 'goodie' bag but it wasn't cold. We have used it at home to help with the swelling. Will take healing time for bone graft before getting the post, so will return as scheduled. Dr. Thompson is professional, skilled, kindly, informative and addresses questions. I found this location through my insurance. And honestly I couldn’t have been more pleased and extremely happy with our experience. My 17yo daughter had all 4 wisdom teeth needing to come out. Staff was beyond helpful after having a bad experience elsewhere. They really took care of us that’s for sure and I couldn’t be more grateful to them. My daughter first thought when meeting the dr she absolutely felt comfortable and confident immediately and said he felt very knowledgeable and looked at her as and individual patient and not just another dollar sign and that’s what she like the most. We booked our removal appointment a few months out. They were very upfront about percentage down. I also was able to contact insurance ahead of time and their billing department to get the most accurate copay/payment for the day of. Very reasonable price for All 4 removals. The day of the service staff was very welcoming friendly smiles and workers and very knowledgeable. They took my daughter to the back. From her experience she said they talked to her and converted with her until the point she fell asleep and barely even remembered falling asleep. Procedure took roughly 30 mins. They talked us through aftercare procedures. Recovery has been good so far, she’s finally eatting soft meals (salmon and mash now day 4) moving on up from mash and soups. Minimum pain, mostly right before bed and first thing in the morning. No bruising, no bleeding after the initial removal.
So thank you for a job well done, smooth extraction and for the friendly staff and Dr.
