Opioid Patient Education

  • Be aware that the possibility of adverse effects increase with prescription opioid use (nausea, vomiting, constipation)
  • There is significant potential for misuse, abuse and overdose with prescription opioids
  • Never adjust your own doses
  • Never mix with alcohol
  • Remember, taking sleep aids, or anti-anxiety medications together with opioid pain medication can be dangerous
  • Always tell your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking from any source
  • Keep your medications locked in a safe place
